At last – tiling on your terms - NEW Variset XP Adhesive

The only tile adhesive that lets you select the working time you need and adjust the time it takes to set.

With normal adhesive, you’re at the mercy of temperature. Too hot, it dries too quickly, so product may be wasted. Too cold, setting takes too long. Or perhaps you’re under time pressure to finish the job.

New BAL Variset XP comprises of a very fast-drying adhesive powder – and separate liquid that slows down the setting times to the exact time wanted by the fixer. You simply:
1. Decide what working time and setting time you need from the adhesive
2. Check the temperature in the room to be tiled (and with the thermo-label on the Variset XP liquid bottle all you need to do is put the bottle in the room and let it acclimatise for 5-10mins to room temperature. –The label then has a green box under the correct temperature)
3. Then just look at the dosage table on the sack that instantly tells you how many capfuls of liquid need to be added to the mix for your desire working and setting times.

Putting FIXERS in control – whatever the temperature.

PLUS with all the same properties as BAL Rapidset Flexible but with the unique benefit of controllable working times you can also rely on BAL Variset XP to be:
• Flexible
• Excellent bond strength
• Suitable for most tile types inc. porcelain tiles
• Water/frost-resistant.

Based on an average consumption of each 1L bottle of liquid will last 15 sacks of adhesive, BAL Variset XP has a similar Suggested Trade Price* to BAL Rapidset Flexible Grey, making it great value as well as a great innovation!

SO where will BAL Variset XP benefit users?

Heat wave on the way High temperatures mean the usual rapid-setting adhesive dries TOO fast – before it’s even been applied. BUT switching to a standard setting product means accepting the 24-hour wait to grout?

Sudden cold snap No heating on site although it should still be ok to fix – just! But the adhesive is going to take an age to set. Does it mean tearing up the work schedule?

Must complete the project today!
The work is running a bit behind. It’s looking like the last tiles won’t be placed in time for the adhesive to set, and for us still to be able to grout today. Is postponing grouting to tomorrow inevitable?

Restricted time window for job
The site is a public environment that’s open daily. Just a couple of hours overnight to do some of the tiling, and allow for the adhesive to set, before cleaning up and morning opening. Is that the most you can expect to achieve in each window?

BAL Variset XP solves al these every day real-life issues for fixers meaning every fixer should have it in their van at all times!!

BAL Variset XP is available from all BAL distributors w.c. Monday 12th October.

*Actual trade prices may vary at differing BAL distributors

Cheers me old Northern hard nut wink.gif

10 Mins, that is superp, really usfull for things like the underside of a window reveal, you could butter em up stick em up and hold em up yourself while having a fag out the window and by the time you finnished they'd be stuck laugh.gif

Also mate what would the pot life be on a setting time of 10 mins?

Am looking forward to using this one, it's a great idea.

First of all here attached is the 6 page booklet you should all be able to pick up from your local distributor, with dosing instructions and pot life/setting times

Secondly price!!...... I notice on another forum that a few doubting Thomas's are already trying to scare people into thinking this product is expensive. Let me explain some comparative pricing for you all (as Alex has suggested elsewhere distributors are free to charge what they want, but this should be a reasonable ball park figure for trade)

BAL RAPIDSET FLEXIBLE GREY weighs 20kg and there are 15.37 mixed litres per bag. If you are charged £24.99 for the bag that equates to £1.63 per litre or £4.88 per metre at 3mm depth

BAL SUPERCOVER RAPID FLEX GRY weighs 15 kg and there are 18.26 mixed litres in the bag. If you are charged £21.99 for the bag that equates to £1.20per litre or £3.61per metre at 3mm depth

BAL VARISET XP (WITH 2 CAPFULS) weighs 20 kg and there are 15.37 mixed litres per bag. The bag will cost you approx £22.99 and the bottle (of 32 shots) £12.99, meaning for the average 2 capfuls per bag you should use the price would effectively be £23.80 per bag. That equates to £1.55 per mixed litres or £4.65 per metre at 3mm depth

If you assume (for the sake of the maths!) that your labour price for one metre is £20 then you would need only to save 15 minutes per metre by using Variset instead of any other adhesive for the Variset to have paid for itself in full. (4.65/20 = 0.235 of an hour) As an indication the "bargain basement" Rapidsets can be bought for around £3.00 per metre> If you take this difference in price, a saving of 5 minutes per metre by using Variset would make it the best value. It is up to you to decide what is expensive and what is cheap!

It has all the same great properties as BAL Rapidset Flexible and will give you the same excellent finished result... the only difference being you can control when that is!

Sounds like a great product. Irrespective of distributors price, for the situations where I deem it right (sometimes essential) to use it can only be a money saver!

Cheers Paul, I'm not so hot with maths but am i right in thinking that 1 bottle of mix should last on average for 16 bags of powder based on the 2 capfulls per bag ratio??

Just checking that i have read your last post correctly smile.gif

Dead tight Toby. If you were to use it to set in 2 hours you would need 2 capfuls so 1 bottle lasts 16 bags. If you only use it to speed up setting it would be less than this
