I had a good Illustration today of how this works.
I had a fixer speak to me today at a CTD store. He has a 94m² limestone floor he's about to start. He would love to use BAL rapid set flex white, but it is a bit pricey. As the floor is bad he says he will need 44 bags (that is bad) of a cheap adhesive, he's getting this at about £18 (thats a good price just for this guy) a bag. So He's paying £792 for his cheap. He says that 44 bags of BAL rapid set flexible white would come in at about £1100. We did some sums and with the coverage and new price of BAL supercover rapid flex white he'll only need 38 bags, and that would come in at about £912. Just £1.28 dearer a meter. Now we never aimed to be the cheapest product on the market, we'll let the other 20+ adhesive companies fight over that, but we are working hard to provide the best value. An extra £1.28 a meter, for a 25 year guarantee, and the full tech support we offer, convinced this guy he would buy BAL again. -------------------- |

This is a subject that fustrates me and I'll tell you for why. I, like most people, don't have a problem of paying more for better quality products, but your idea of best value must be based on your RRP, and therefore unless we are able to purchase somewhere close to this price your perception of value is flawed.
I would like nothing more than to be able to use BAL materials solely, but when I have to shell out locally, for what IMO is the best rapidset adhesive on the market, £16.11 ( £11.95 at CTD) for a 22.5kg bag the idea of value is some what lost! Does anyone at BAL monitor the prices the distributors are charging? Even though I am aware they can charge what they want, couldn't you point out what is being charged around the market place, because we all know charging a little less is still going to make them a nice profit! |

Craig, our distributors prices are a matter for them.... by law!, but as you say they all are very conscious of what other distributors are charging so prices tend to be within a range but i am sure that you could get a good deal locally from a number of sources. Can you PM me with who you normally buy from and I may be able to point you in the right direction The point about best value is that the price for Supercover Rapidset has been dramatically reduced to distributors. The Suggested Retail price is £10.99 for 15kg. This works out at £0.64/litre or £1.92 per metre if you applied it at exactly 3mm depth. The comparative price for Standard Rapidset 22.5kg is £0.72/litre at the CTD special offer price of £11.95/bag. The supercover price is an everyday low price (as Tesco would say) |

If some don't what should happen is that they lose business to those that do. I sympathise with those of you in far flung parts of the country with limited choice of suppliers, but there should be plenty of choice in and around Doncaster Craig |

I love to use BAL, unfortunately the problem is there are some cracking deals on other leading brands. CTD priced up some adhesive for a 45 square metre job last week, CTD did some calculations on coverage I would need 10 bags from the other manufacturer equating to £99.50 +vat which was a good quality C2FT-S1. The supercover priced up worked out at 7 bags @ 31.06 = £217.42 +vat. CTD worked the coverage out on a 3mm thickness bed.
I can't warrant paying the extra £117.92 +vat which equates to £2.62 a metre for BAL, as the other manufacturer still has the same back up and guarantee. That extra £117.92 could lose me work that I can't sacrafice to lose in the current climate. -------------------- Despite what I say. BAL is by far the best value adhesive on the market.

Let me show you how it works so you can tell the other Weber reps and all the customers.... like most adhesive reps you miss the point on the EN standards and believe that all c2 adhesives are the same. Supercover is priced at £0.64per litre as an everyday price whilst your Weber product is £0.65/litre on special offer. Nice try never the less! |

I can tell you where to buy BAL Supercover Rapid set for £11.40 a bag plus VAT which would bring you in 7 bags for £91.77 inclusive of VAT. And they are London prices |

That extra £117.92 could lose me work that I can't sacrafice to lose in the current climate. First point Aard you can have only one leading brand. That's BAL the last time I looked. That Weber (I'm assuming it is weber) price is a CTD offer, if they choose to sell it that then so be it, if you're gonna qoute BAL prices, get them right. The trade price at CTD for supercover rapid flex starts around £22.60. So thas £158.20. Only £1.31 a m² extra. Lets not forget this is an offer price for weber. What's the usual trade price, £13 a bag? If so, we're only talking about £20 difference, or 44p a meter So weber offer the same service. First where's the 25 year guarantee? How about your 5 Product Support Technicians, and 2 Training managers, and the 6 training centres (With more on the way)? Technical Advisory service? Tilerworld, and this forum? Shall I go on? Any way Aard, where are you based. Perhaps you could meet up with one of our PST's maybe he'll convince you of the added BAL Value. -------------------- |

Thanks goodness I didn't put money on it ...Gaz and some of the others realised you were a Weber rep trying to skew the site ...Same back up and guarantee ...not that I can find! the person who told you that must be the same person who did your calculations!! ...I will send you a BAL calculator in the post |

At a 3mm bed, the £18 adhesive. 200 bags £3600. Supercover Rapid Flex @ £24, 167 bags £4175. Thats £575 difference. Take off the days less labour for one guy not having to mix another 33 bags, and the price difference is not that bad. As I said, we don't want to be the cheapest, just the best value. -------------------- |
