speaking of uncoupling membranes

i know you can use them on green screeds b ut can you use them on green screeds with wet UFH system that has not been commisioned and wont be for ages gas not connected.

The thing is how much will these cracks open when the heating is on? If they open more than 4mm, your Ditra will struggle to cope with that (some feed back from the Schluter guys would be good). If it is going to move that much then a movement joint is essential. Of course there is no way of knowing once it's tiled how much those cracks will move. Ditra will help, but there is no real way of knowing if it will work.

Hello Tattman,

Give one of the technical guys a ring at the office 01530 813396 and they will talk through the application with you. They will also arrange to send some information on installing Schlüter-DITRA on various substrates for future reference.

Regards

Carl

Side note: Durabase Ci and Schlüter-DITRA are not the same product and are not made in the same factory, what relavance that has anyway I'm yet to work out. Remember when checking price to consider that Schlüter-DITRA comes in 30m rolls and not 25m.

Carl, am I right in thinking the heated screed still needs to be commissioned prior to fixing the ditra & tiles and there is no way round this? I recently suggested this on the forum but another poster contradicted the advice and said that Schluter had an alternative matting that would eliminate the need to commission new screeds. Asked him for product name but haven't had a reply. Can you clear this up?

Hello Andrew,

Best pratice with heated screeds is to commision inline with the manufacturers guidlines prior to installation of Schlüter-DITRA and tiles. We would always promote this as best practice as we do with our own heated screed system Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM.

We don't have a matting system that we would promote as a way of not commisioning the heated screed prior to installation.

Regards

Carl
